Manufacturing and Services
SRI was founded in 1991 by Dr. Peter B. Lake as Steel Related Industries Quality System Registrar, a part of the Steel Industry Supplier Audit Program (SISAP). American heavy industry, pillared by metals and materials, was one of the first in the U.S. to adopt international standards for quality. SRI quickly became a leader in industry and is now one of the top 5 U.S. owned and operated registrars. Its expertise and role in the early adoption of the ISO 9001 standard have made SRI a leader in standards and the world’s largest registrar to metals and materials companies.
SRI’s customers now fall in and produce products for over 40 industries and a multitude of goods and services shipped and used around the world. We continue to innovate and help industries meet new standards for quality and environmental performance. SRI helped develop and was the first registrar to offer QS-9000 certification. We were also one of the first to offer IATF 16949. Today, the auditors that serve our American industrial base, continue to volunteer and serve in leadership roles in the development and application of the standards our customers adopt.
Metals and materials companies are major suppliers to and customers of other leading industrial sectors that have adopted international standards or developed their own sector standard. Automotive, Aerospace, and Chemicals are prime examples. Tier 1 suppliers are often required to adopt the sector specific standards, such as IATF 16949, AS9100, or RCMS, and Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers are more often required to adopt ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 as a minimum.
New standards continue to develop to meet the growing needs of metals and materials companies. The Health and Safety standard ISO 45001, Information Security standard ISO 27001, Data System Management standard ISO 20000, and standards for social responsibility are all current standards that aim to meet specific goals of organizations. In any case, SRI is committed to meet the needs of its metals and materials clients and offer the accreditations they need to improve, compete, and succeed in the marketplace today.
From manufacturing to value-added services, no registrar in the world better serves metals and materials companies than SRI. Every one of our auditors is from the industry they audit, so they can step right in, add value, and help you succeed.
Expertise. Consistency. Service. Value.
SRI has made these qualities its hallmark since its first day in 1991. We continue to set the example for industry today. There is a difference in registrars. Let SRI show you.
